IQF Take Over
The utilisation of freezing bulk ingredients has always been a common occurrence in food and beverage manufacturing. But standard freezing practices are a thing of the past, with issues of clumping, crystal formation and loss of nutrients, all of which in one way or another affect the manufacturing process and quality of the finished product.
The process known as Individually Quick Frozen (IQF) involves snap freezing individual pieces immediately after harvest, providing a multitude of benefits. With consistency, affordability and shelf life being the first benefits that come to mind, it's important to also note the ease of use and reduction in food waste. These two elements come from the individual freezing element, that results in a reduction in crystal formations and huge blocks of ingredients clinging together.
Minimal processing and freshness will win in the supermarket shopping cart battle every time. IQF products can be considered ‘fresher than fresh’, quick frozen at the point of picking to drastically reduce any degradation after harvest, while maintaining the nutrients, flavour, and aroma.
For manufacturers, they are able to sidestep the arduous process of dealing with fresh produce, and the obvious issues of shelf life that come along with it. Whether looking for juicy rhubarb, nutritious bananas, vibrant veggies, or aromatic herbs, IQF delivers some of the highest quality available. Many of the benefits of IQF products are mutually beneficial for both manufacturer and consumer, but the consistency, availability, and ease of preparation give manufacturers a sense of security for their stock positions, as well as improving the manufacturing process.
In our increasingly unstable climate, availability of fresh products will be progressively precarious and so being able to rely on your stock availability and quality will become more and more invaluable.
